DRIET

DROUGHT DIET TRACKING. CUSTOMIZED FOR YOU.

DRIET, your new, improved, drought diet tracking device.

We have found a solution to upcoming droughts and ways to prevent them. People in our Windward community are not all aware of what they are doing to affect future droughts, but we do. We have been able to find a way to make drought tolerant foods, recipes, and tracking accessible to everyone. The building of our website DRIET will consist of 4 different pages each having its own feature, to help prevent future droughts, by inspiring our audience to cut back on foods with a high water footprint.

The first page of our website will let the user browse recipes
made with drought tolerant foods, instead of foods that
have a high water footprint. Recipes will exclusively be made
with drought tolerant ingredients. This page will also
contain a section where the user an transfer to and from the
different pages.

The second portion of the website, DRIET, will be a learning factor. Someone using our app will have the option of learning about if the foods they are currently consuming are benefiting approaching droughts, or affecting them in a dangerous way. Our website will also include an about page that talks about the creators of our website and what our website is doing to benefit our community.
Another part of our website will be a tracking device that will let the user track your avocado, almond, and chocolate consumption, all foods that are drought intolerant, and have a high water footprint. This device will show the user the advantages of cutting down their avocado consumption from, let’s say, 5 avocados a week to 3, using a visual of a water glass. The water glass will have marks on it that show you the amount of water you are saving by eating 6 avocados or less a week, 70 or less almonds a week, and 14 ounces of dark and and 12 ounces of milk chocolate a week.

We will collect data by sending out a survey before and after our website has been in use to see how much water someone was previously wasting on their diet, and following their use of our app. With the results, we will be able to analyze their water use and calculate how much water we have saved in total. To get the most accurate results,  we will be sending out the first survey after the users first day of using the app, so that they can fill out their drought intolerant food usage of the day. We will then send another survey after the last day of the app experiment, so that they can fill out their drought intolerant food usage of the day again. Our hope is that by
being more aware of their effects, and by using the other resources on our app,
our audience will be using less drought intolerant foods by the last day of our experiment.
